I am a small business owner and found this book to be very helpful. If you are like me you are probably very good at what you do. Unfortunately for me those skills do not translate well to money management in my business.The next best thing to hiring a professional is reading a helpful book by a professional and applying the tips and recommendations. This is a great book for the latter. I am sure I will be keeping it close by as I navigate through my business finances going forward.
Simply put, this was a fantastic book. I don't know what he could possibly include in part 2 (the book references that a part 2 is in development), but when that time comes, I'll definitely check it out.Without trying to be all things to all people, Wentworth has deftly toed the line of offering a book that provides tips that touch on every aspect of a small business owner's day (revenue generation / web optimization / budgeting / invoicing / cash flow / collecting) that at the same time apply across a wide swath of industries, from food service to retail to manufacturing.Setting aside for a moment the value of the strategies outlined in the book, I was equally impressed by the writing style. Wentworth takes you through what could be dull textbook like material with a wry wit similar to The Ringer's Bill Simmons. The thorough detail with which he explains strategies such as building customer loyalty is reminiscent of a Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue fame. Similar to Taffer, the strategies are in many cases as practical as they are inexpensive to adopt/implement.The depth and breadth of the knowledge contained in the book immediately lends legitimacy to his "Mr. Biz" moniker. It becomes evident quickly that these concepts aren't plucked from the musings of someone steeped in business theory, but rather they are born of actual expeirence with his real world clients.Wentworth is funny, motivational, practical and effective. If you want simple strategies such as how to build customer loyalty; this book has it. If you want more technical direction (think how to size marketing spend, or how to use meta phrases to optimize web search), this book has it.An easy, informative read.
As a "micro" business owner, I found this to be a straight-forward conglomeration of simple steps to increase revenue in virtually any style shop. No PhD required! The simplicity of the format and real-world examples make this a valuable and easy read - especially for those of us who have small businesses on the side, "real" jobs to focus on, and little time to spare. Lots of tips in a small package. I found that although I am taking the "Mr. Biz approach" in many areas, I may not be effecting the process quite the way I should. Definitely worth the read as there is something in it for everyone!
Great book! This book is an easy, yet highly informative, read. Mr Biz takes out the technical jargon and presents the information in a comprehensible way. He provides examples that are easy to understand and that are relatable to the average person. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who currently owns a business or who wants to start a business.
The book is very well written. Pragmatic tips for the entrepreneur who is just starting out and a fantastic refresher for those who are stuck in a rut. Highly recommended.
This was a great and informative book, Mr. Biz grabs you and Igor out of the gate by making it personal right from the start and uses examples that everyone can relate to. A lot of good information in this book, can’t wait for volume 2
