Not the delight I was expecting at all. Ugly cover and not much in the way of engaging writing from either ernie featured writers or the author who collected a bunch of online photos.
I purchased this book for a White Elephant game over the holidays and it went over very well! It appealed to a lot of different people and we ended up taking turns flipping through it after the game had ended.I'm thinking of ordering my own copy as I love cats and books, and maybe keeping an extra copy handy for a last minute gift!

Ah, the glorious, independent, enigmatic cat. You know, the little soul who demands your attention immediately or makes like you never existed. One is simply a so-called cat person or not. Writers and artists are, of course, are the ardent cat fanciers of the world (this I know). When this book arrived on my doorstep I set aside everything to check out what kind of cats my favorite writers fancied. Some appeared to go solo, while others amassed piles of ‘em. Of course we all know about Ernest Hemingway, long considered the “most famous literary cat fancier†of them all. Naturally Papa Hemingway and his cats were ones I wanted to check out.Every author covered in this book has an utterly charming portrait of him or herself with their feline companion or companions. Why just look at JirŠOsaragi (Haruhiko Nojiri) and seven charmers and you’ll be envious! Back to Hemingway, who insists that “A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not.†A truer sentiment was never expressed concerning the cat, a critter who lets you know exactly how you stand in his eyes.This book was not what many would consider to be a quick read and then one tossed aside, but rather one to return to time and time again to savor. I did race through it initially, but went back to pore over both the written word and those cats. Did you know they can make the most curmudgeonly among us smile? They can. The portraits in this book most certainly show the softer, more loving side of their souls when their cats are beside them. I loved this book and most certainly will read it a couple of times before I hand it along so others can enjoy it.This book courtesy of the publisher (to the library).
